Do I have to be ABLE TO SING?
Nope! You just have to LIKE singing! No judgement. Promise.
Do I have to audition for your choirs?
There are no auditions for any of our choirs. Sometimes we might ask (mainly youth choir) members to sing a few notes to make sure they’re in the right section – but this is not an audition. If you want to be in, you’re in!
do the choirs do performances
Yes, definitely. We love to show off the hard work that people have put in. These may vary from term to term – or not always be at the end of a term. We like to keep them varied where possible.
do I need to be able to read music
No. However, we do give out sheet music rather than just lyrics. We’ll help make sure you can follow it through – but it’s just about getting the idea of shapes in the music, rather than being able to name notes etc. And you can still learn everything just by listening if you’d rather!
Do you offer free places/subsidies
We don’t get any funding for free places. However, we’d hate to think that someone who was desperate to sing couldn’t do that just because of money. So please make sure you email us (Steph@singsmiths.co.uk) and let us know if we can help.

why singsmiths?
Smiths always seem to create things – like blacksmiths. So with Singsmiths, we’re creating things with singing.
why is there no apostrophe?
We ummed and ahhed about this a lot. But as the name of the group is (eg) Singsmiths Community Choir – that’s the full name, rather than the choir belonging to Singsmith. At least know that we thought long and hard about it.
why are there no real photos/videos
Every photo on the site is currently AI created. As the choirs etc are brand new for September 2025, we don’t have any photos yet – or videos. And rather than use real people who are in different choirs, we thought we’d use AI until we get our hands on photos of our new members. We’ll be changing them as soon as we can!
